Abstract BannerRiccarton

Riccarton Kindergarten has a long history in the Association and as you’ll see from the extracts below, has always been an innovative centre, keen to try new equipment and new ideas.

The photo gallery below shows many of the activities Riccarton has got up to over the years. Everything from funny nose days, to Ferrymead excursions and father’s days helping out around the kindy. See if you can guess the years of each photo!

“A new circular water trough has also been made and used at Phillipstown Kindergarten, where it has proved a fine piece of equipment. Riccarton Kindergarten has provided swings made from cut tyres which are the first of this kind to be used in Christchurch and these have proved both safe and comfortable for the children to sit on and to grasp.” – Eva Millen, Supervising Director of Staff, Annual Report, 1960.

“Miss Hull gave an interesting address, and on that occasion asked for a canary for Phillipstown. A few days later Mrs Holmes sent one from Riccarton to the great delight of the children.” – E.A. Peppler, President, Annual Report and Balance Sheet, 1920-1921.
