“It was seen as ‘rescuing the children’. It was a wonderful philosophy and the people who carried it, those early, pioneering people, were just driven by wanting good things for kids. It started off with only trained teachers. That was right from the start. So it was ahead of its time in that it didn’t see looking after children as something that was secondary or lesser.” – Carol Eggleston, former CWFKA President. 

When the North New Brighton Kindergarten was first established it was in the old tennis club building which has since been demolished, but by 1950 it had moved to its present site.

The photo below shows the crowd of past and present pupils who gathered at the kindergarten for its 60th anniversary.

North New Brighton also had an important role to play in forming the Kidsfirst brand. In 2008, the Association had a revamp of its branding and many of the images used to create the new silhouettes were taken of children from the North New Brighton Kindergarten.

North New Brighton Kindergarten is the perfect example of those early ideas of quality education that have kept us strong for 100 years, and an example of the modern look of the organisation as we keep ourselves relevant in changing times.
