Kapa haka Matariki celebrations at Kidsfirst Ngaire Larcombe.
“With the opening of Mathers Road and Ngaire Larcombe, the number of kindergartens in the Association has risen to forty-eight.”
– Carol Eggleston, Supervising Head Teacher, Annual Report 1977.
The kindergarten was named after Ngaire Larcombe who was a tireless worker for our kindergarten association for a great many years.
Shirley Barton, another strong voice from our past, wrote in the Kindergarten Chronicle that…
“A year after I became a Council member, Ngaire Larcombe, who I’d known as the very confident and enthusiastic Delegate from Papanui Kindergarten, was elected to the Council. Alone and unaided, she did an amazing job with the raffle for years. Later she became President of the Association.”
Kidsfirst Ngaire Larcombe sadly closed its kindergarten gates at the end of Term One in 2023 due to the changing demographics and lack of demand in the area.
“We had a wonderful day,” says Kidsfirst Ngaire Larcombe’s, Head Teacher Kate Norman. of the 40th birthday celebrations in 2017, “We enjoyed shared kai, face-painting, a bouncy castle and a birthday cake.”
Ngaire Larcombe., a tireless supporter of kindergarten, after whom the kindergarten was named.
