As part of Kidsfirst’s centenary commemorations, a fleet of vintage cars travelled the city, dropping off special visitors to each kindergarten.
Vintage cars of all types turned up at our kindergartens. At Kidsfirst Nuffield, it was a Morris Minor in recognition of Lord Nuffield, whose generous support led to the foundation of the kindergarten.
There were cars as old as some of our kindys turning up at Kidsfirst Kindergartens all over our regions. Tamariki and kaiako heard a familiar vroom vroom, and saw classic automobiles draw up to their gates.
The beautiful old cars which fascinated tamariki to no end also carried special visitors who meant something to each specific kindergarten.
It was a great way to visualise some of our history with a stunning reminder of days gone by, and to show that our community connections were still strong.
A convoy of wonderful old cars took our special guests to kindergartens all over the city. We really appreciated the efforts of the vintage car clubs in making this happen.
Not just an incredible car but a surprise visitor too! From former teachers to local personalities, a much loved kindy cleaner and even our Chair and Chief Executive, it was a fantastic time.
