As part of Kidsfirst’s centenary commemorations,
kindergartens celebrated with colourful and exhuberant balloons
emblazoned with 100 Years Young!
There were as many different ways that our kindys used their ballons as there were kindergartens.
Kidsfirst Kindergartens came alive with nearly a thousand balloons to celebrate the Association’s centenary.
In bright shades (all the colours of childhood!) they proudly showed off the 100 Years Young graphic as they fluttered in the wind, hung from fences and trees or simply floated around the floor of the kindergarten.
It started as an idea that came from Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hokitika, who put balloons along their fence to mark the 100th birthday.
Because the West Coast was largely unaffected by the Canterbury earthquakes, they held some celebrations of their own, while it would take the rest of the Association some while later to host their events.
Balloon Day was a simple but effective way to announce to the neighbourhood that a celebration was going on, as part of our 100 Days of Kidsfirst commemorations, which saw everything from Vintage Car visits (bringing special guests to the kindy) to archive boxes for the kindergartens to create. All in all, a great occasion.
Some teams, like the kaiako at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Burnham, spelt out 100 in their multi-coloured balloons on the front fence. People around all our neighbourhoods commented on the sudden explosion of colourful balloons.
Balloons in a range of bright and cheerful colours were printed with the special 100 Years Young logo. Every kindergarten received a hundred balloons (with a couple to spare, just in case).
